Dave Petersen is a 37 year old veteran who served from 2006 until 2017 with a deployment to Afghanistan in 2012. Dave is a graduate of the Royal Military College - Duntroon and was posted to a range of positions as an Artillery Officer: 16th Air Defence Regiment (Troop Commander), 1st Recruit Training Battalion (Platoon Commander), 16th Air Land Regiment (Battery Captain), 4th Regiment (A/OPSO), 2-6 Air Defense Artillery Battalion - US Army (Exchange Instructor) and AHQ.

Medically discharged from the ADF in 2017 due to mental health injuries, Dave was able to commence his civilian career by utilising a professional veteran employment agency that was facilitated by his local RSL Sub-Branch. He understands how difficult the transition from ADF to civilian can be for veterans. He understands how difficult the DVA claims process is and how overwhelming it can be. He understands that every ADF transition is unique and often very positive.
Dave is an active member of his local Country Fire Service Brigade and has been awarded the National Emergency Medal for Tropical Cyclone Debbie (2017) and Bushfires 2019-2020.
Dave is a keen sailor who is regularly found out on the Spencer Gulf or further afield racing or cruising! He will be travelling to the US whilst the voting for the RSL SA/NT State President is open as part of the US Patriot Sailing Team - looking to get a veteran sailing entry in the Sydney to Hobart in 2024.
